Japanese Influences
Here are several pieces I’ve done that have some Japanese inspiration. None are traditional, mind you, just inspired.
Below is one of the first “kiridashi” I did. It’s edge quenched 1084 carbon steel, skate tape underlay and grey paracord wrap. I pulled the lining out of the paracord to flatten it and coated the cord in CA to harden it after the wrap was finished.

Here are some photos of another “kiridashi” I’ve done. This is S30V with textured copper underlay and acrylic cord coated with fiberglass resin. There was a sheath made for this knife, but I don’t have a picture of it. The last picture includes a skinner design I have with wrapped handle. There will be more of this design coming up later.

The knife below was auctioned away a couple years ago for a worthy cause. It is 15N20 band saw steel, dyed rayskin underlay and epoxy coated acrylic cord. I call it a “ken” dagger because I have no other approximation.

Last is a knife I made for my wife in 2006. This is a santoku style blade made of ATS-34 with a gumwood handle and Corian accents. It is 3/32” thick and has an extra long handle to keep your hand off the counter/cutting board when chopping.
